World of sand

The fascinating world of sand sculptures will astonish the guests at the seaside resort of Travemunde in Germany. The sand, which is used to construct the sculptures, has a typical granular structure. This sand enables the sculptors to easily build sculptures of several metres high. After the cutting and treating of the block the sand will keep its shape over several weeks. Over a period of four weeks nearly 75 sculptors who come from different countries will shape the masterpieces from approximately 9.000 tons of sand. During the first three days after the official opening visitors had the unique opportunity of watching the sculptors at work.
