The words "Population Police" may not sound scary to you, but to Matthias they're terrifying.

These tyrannical men make sure that no more than two children are born to a family. Unfortunately, Matthias is a third child — which means he is illegal, and could suffer a cruel fate if he is caught. So far, Matthias and his friends Percy and Alia have managed to escape these dreaded police. But once the Population Police take over the government, it gets more difficult.

Matthias and his friends are almost caught, and Percy and Alia are seriously wounded. Then Matthias accidentally saves the life of a member of the Population Police — and as a reward, he's allowed to join their army!

This book is the sixth in the "Shadow Children" series. It's confusing at times, but you'll probably enjoy it if you've read the other books in this series.

The year is 1858, and in dull, dark Eden City, lives young orphan Jim and his so-called `uncle' Edward. They visit rich houses entertaining people with their shows and acts — while actually "relieving the rich of their wealth".

In Greece, at the dawn of time, Prometheus is serving his punishment. Then Zeus, challenges him to find a human hero. So Prometheus travels through time to accomplish this goal and to escape the Fury and lands in Eden City.

The Fire Thief is written in a most wonderful way- it is narrated by Jim, who, with his timely comments cannot but help make you smile. With charming characters, the scene keeps shifting from Ancient Greece to Eden City at the most suspense-filled moments. It is written in a simple, hilarious manner and it's a book that readers of all ages can enjoy.
