This is a book about colour. And Death. About the domino effect. And the seventh side of the die. It's a story about snowy Stalingrad, and Nazi Germany. About a little boy with a big ambition, and a grown man with a terrifying plan.
It is a book about painting on walls and playing the accordion; about writing books and reading them. A book about fathers who don't mind showing their love, and mothers who are afraid to show they care. A book about word-shakers and athletes, Jews and Nazis, the living and the dead. A book full of people - old and young, happy and sad, mean and kind.
Mostly, though, this is a book about a book thief.
And it is a brilliant, brilliant book. A book where there are no surprises, yet one where every page shocks and amazes you. A book which will have you crying at the happier moments, and howling at the sad ones. A book where words are put to their best use - forming sentences, phrases and descriptions which make the whole story such extremely enjoyable reading. A book narrated by Death, that is full of life - it is a fabulous, engrossing, unbelievably moving book.

Jimmy Coates was an ordinary, 11-year-old boy. At least that is what he thought. Then, one day a group of mysterious men in black suits with guns barge into his house and attempt to kidnap him! Jimmy manages to escape by jumping out through a window, but his parents are taken away. Jimmy is surprised at his ability to jump through a closed window without getting hurt. Now how could he have possibly done that? He is confused, but forgets about it in his anxiety to save his parents. Soon, he realises that the men are still after him. How can he avoid getting caught and save his parents?
As time goes by he realises that he has extraordinary powers. What are these powers? And why are the men after him? The story is unique, full of suspense and very interesting.
