Bid for freedom
BACK HOME: After a failed attempt at freedom.
You can't say that Willy did not try. Willy, a 40-pound tortoise, took a shot at a free life a month ago. But life on the road ended recently when he was restored to his owner, Kellie Copeland. Copeland had reported Willy missing on July 1 and he was spotted just five miles away on August 20. His rescuer was a technician with an emergency medical service. Willy may have also created a new record for slow crawlers five miles in six weeks averages 0.005mph. He's now back in the dog kennel in his owner's backyard. Aware that he can dig under the fence and make a new bid for freedom, Copeland said she'd keep an eye on him.
