The articles "Concentration camps" and "The modern student" that appeared in Quest, dt. September 8, leave one wondering what is wrong with today's education system. We old timers were lucky to enjoy a more "rounded" education. We must remember that life is short and time is fleeting. Too soon our childhood days are over and what are we left with then to remember of them?

Deprival of games, play and the cultural activities will surely retard the holistic growth of students and should be resisted by parents and educationists. The author being a psychiatrist has given a timely and significant signal.

It was fascinating to read about high schooling in the U.S. Purely academic candidates do not get into top colleges in the U.S. but we in India still follow the good old British system of education. It is book oriented and not innovative. As mentioned in the article "Concentration camps", 19 hours of study is the expected norm!
