Barbie breaks records

IMPRESSIVE COLLECTION: Barbie all the way.

Don't ever turn your nose up at a Barbie again. A recent auction of a private collection of 4000 Barbies saw "Barbie in Midnight Red", which dated back to 1965, sold for a record breaking £9,000 to an anonymous collector. The first Barbie from 1959, clad in a zebra-stripe swimsuit, also went for £2,880 against the expected £1200. The collection belonged to Ietje Raebel, who first bought the doll for her daughter in the early 1960s. Her daughter didn't want them but Raebel began collecting the dolls inspired by Barbie's wardrobe. She stopped in 2002 when she developed Alzheimer's. What made this collection all the more unique was the fact that most of the dolls had never been taken out of their boxes.
