Jenny was sad when Mr. Desai ordered Moti out of the apartment block, but Billu was happy.

Jenny was miserable. Mr. Desai wanted Moti out of the apartment premises. How could anyone be so heartless? Moti had come to the apartment block when he was a stray pup of five months. It was Jenny who looked after him and Moti had faithfully guarded their apartment. But the grouch Mr. Desai had an aversion for animals and mongrels in particular; he was looking for a chance to throw Moti out. And then one morning, Moti almost bit the newspaperman, Billu, "for no fault of his".
Sent away
"Moti is such a good watch dog, Mr. Desai, the paper man looks like a shady character, he always throws stones at Moti and that's why Moti almost bit him today," pleaded Jenny. But Mr. Desai was not convinced.
Jenny was frustrated and decided to take Moti to Mr. Chatterjee an old friend of Jenny's grandpa. The next day Mr. Desai and his family locked their flat and left to attend their relative's wedding in a neighbouring town. The regular watchman was on leave, and a substitute took his place. That night, a notorious thief who had been keeping watch on the apartment was rejoicing at the turn of events. He knew that Mr. Desai was away, the new watchman was lazy and even the dog Moti that always spoiled his plans was out of the way. The notorious thief was of course, none other than Billu. He started off for Mr. Desai's flat. He knew that there were a lot of valuables there because Mr. Desai's daughter was soon to be married. He was just about to get into Mr. Desai's flat when something bit him hard. He shrieked. The scream woke up the people in the flats. They came running out and caught Billu.
Moti had run away from Mr. Chatterjee's house and returned to his old home. Now everyone knew that without Moti it would have been impossible to catch the innocent looking Billu.
