Bull brothers
PAROMITA PAIN
|
Two highland bulls and the adventures they get into.
|
The story begins on a lazy day that marvellously transforms into the most adventurous time ever. Clootie and Dumpling are Highland Bulls and brothers at that. While Clootie is the leader and ever ready for an adventure, Dumpling can be a bit of a bore because he always thinks up of what could possibly go wrong. Clootie and Dumpling are actually based on two real life bulls owned by John Grantham. In the story they are the residents of the picturesque Glenboodle farm and the brothers have many friends whose unique characteristics lend great flavour to this otherwise simple though exciting tale.
Kog the dog is probably the most interesting of them because being a mongrel he is a mixture of "many different kinds of dog". A very tempered creature, he is ready for laughs all the time. His nemesis is Spat the nasty Cat who has some nasty habits like spitting. Bonnie the Rabbit and Phoebe the Flea make up the rest of the menagerie with Mr. Makeit who is the human but invisible owner who creates the wonderful things that so aid the friends along their journey. The pictures are a delight. The animals seem alive and about to leap off the page. Ultimately as Clootie says it is truly all about harnessing the power of imagination.
