JAUNTY COWBOYS: All dressed up.

It was a time to dress up — for dogs, that is! Participating in the 16th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade recently in New York City the parade featured hundreds of dogs in competition for prizes in the country's largest Halloween dog parade. The Tompkins Square parade began in the East Village in the 1980's and remains the largest, non-competitive gathering of dog owners in the country. All proceeds will go to the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation for the $150,000 restoration of the Tompkins Square Dog Run, a.k.a. "First Run". The popularity of this parade has spawned similar pageants across the city. Though the Tompkins Square parade remains the largest. Prize-winning categories include: Best in Show; Best Costume (Large Breed); Best Costume (Small Breed); Best Dog Team Costume (Group of Dogs); Best Owner Dog Combo; Best Dog with Kid; Best Trick.
