Safe haven

NIMI KURIAN

An interesting story of a tiger's fight for survival.

Kuma had found a safe place to have her cubs. And when they were born she took a lot of care and tried to protect them from the dangers of the forest. But even she cannot fight against predators both animal and human. And in the long fight for survival only one cub makes it to adulthood.

Tiger! tells the story of life in a game park. Geoffrey Malone weaves an interesting tale with the workings of officialdom and Inspector Singh being constantly overlooked for his promotion and the adventures of his children Himal and Anji. For them, living in the sanctuary is exciting and adventurous. And they enjoy every minute of it.

A couple of honey gatherers are lured with money to become poachers. Sadly, it is one of Kuma's cubs that pays the price for their greed. But the poachers get their just reward in the end.

Malone says that what prompted him to write this book was the newspaper report of poachers breaking into a zoo in Hyderabad and killing a tiger, skinning it and cutting it up. This book has combined both fact and fiction to make it a remarkable piece of work.
