Ancient secret

A 2,000-year-old wreck off Alicante on the Spanish coast holds the secret of an ancient Roman delicacy. The well-preserved ship contains 1200 jars from which samples of fish sauce will be taken to allow scientists to recreate the recipe. The wreck, which is in shallow water, could also hold information about ancient trade routes. The vessel was discovered in 2000 when another ship's anchor became entangled with the wreck. Authorities placed a metal net around the wreck in July to prevent plunderers from getting at it.
