Santa's helpers
On reading the story "Santa's Christmas blues" in the Young World dated December 22 I felt that not everything is lost .
My only son Ripunjoy suffers from "Duchene Muscular Dystrophy". He is confined to his wheelchair. He did very well in the HSLC Exams held in 2006 and was placed in the first division. On December 15 he suffered a heart attack. There were some boys playing cricket in front of our house. We did not know them at that time. When they heard the crying some of them ran to the hospital to bring the doctor home. Others came in and helped fix the drip and some ran to the medical store to buy medicines. And by doing all this they saved Ripunjoy's life.
We celebrate Ripunjoy's birthday on December 25. And he always expects a gift from Santa. And we have fulfilled his dream somehow.
But this time the scene was different. He lay in bed completely with an oxygen mask on his face and bottles of saline by the side of his bed. Now he has recovered almost 80 per cent. The children who helped us are really Santa's helpers.
