Meet the karate expert

A.B SUDHINDRA

He wants to help the elderly.

TO PROTECT: Fast moves

For Gunasheel Ashok Kumar, standard VI student of Sri Kumaran Children's Home (CBSE), what started as a hobby about three years ago, has become his first love.

He won the second place at the sixth All India Kata and Kumite Championship hosted by All India Seibudo Kai Karate-do Training School in Bangalore.

He started learning karate to `protect himself' and now, he says, he intends to protect others, especially elderly persons.

Little master

Gunasheel attends karate classes three days in a week. "I love attending these classes. My mother takes keen interest and she accompanies me to the classes. She is my major source of support and encouragement," he says.

His mother, Meera Raghavan says that Gunasheel excels in academics too. "He is a responsible child and knows the importance of hard work," she says. It is said that karate ultimately builds inner calm and peace. It prepares a person to win his own inner battles and walk away from trouble. But, if the trouble follows him, he will be able to deal with it effectively. Gunasheel dreams to fight not only his troubles but also of those who need it.
