First landing on the moon

P. SOLOMON DHANARAJ

The Arab Sheikdom of Fujeira issued a 10 Rials stamps in 1972, commemorating the first landing of man on the moon, which took place on July 20, 1969. This stamp measures 81x 147 mm, and ranks as the largest ever produced postage stamp in convenient sheet format. It shows Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin planting the U.S. flag and Michael Collins on the vehicle.

Almost all countries that issue stamps have honoured this historic event by issuing commemorative stamps. India brought out a special stamp on November 19, 1969.
