PAROMITA PAIN

February is almost the official month of romance with Valentine's Day. Historically the idea of romance has always been around during this month. But there's more to the month. Take a cyber stroll to understand how.

"The history of Valentine's Day — and its patron saint — is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been a month of romance"— confirms the history of valentine's day page at http://www.history.com/ minisites/valentine/

Religion and common sense also played a part to make Saint Valentine's Day in February. What is the one question about February that people ask the most? Obviously why the month has 28 days of course! Well visit the page at

http://webexhibits.org/calendars/year-history.html#Anchor-39778 to have that one answered.

The idea of the leap year is irrevocably linked with this month. Check out the "The History of Leap Year" page at http://inventors.about.com/cs/inventionsalphabet/a/leap_year.htm for more info.

To check out the important happenings this month, visit the http://www.tnl.net/when/2 page where a calendar opens up for visitors to click on the date in the month they want to visit. It also lists birthdays of famous people.

Besides lovebirds, this month is also significant for other historical reasons. Everyone knows how the Blacks were suppressed and how they won their civil rights. "February marks the beginning of Black History Month — an annual celebration that has existed since 1926," says the http://www.history.com/minisites/blackhistory/. This page is very important as it documents efforts to make Blacks an integral part of mainstream history.
