UNITED INDIA: Many differences, diverse beliefs.
Different people, different dreams, different viewpoints. But how do we live in peace and be happy inspite of so many differences? This was the crux of the Alchemy Kids Theatre Club production "2020 — Unifying India", recently at the Alliance Francaise auditorium. Set in Chennai, with the beach as the backdrop, it started with Ram telling his story of his adoption by Mrs Maniammal who also set him up in his bookstore. "It was destiny that brought us together," reflects Ram. The beach is a colourful place, always full of people, and so Ram isn't lonely. He has his artist friend, Kashi, Suzie and of course Priya.
Fights are common and often too plenty for Priya's liking who tries hard to keep peace. But then Suzie the Sea view Kiosk-owner refuses to appreciate anything about India and forever dreams of settling abroad, upsetting Kashi in the process.
Friends again
But resolution isn't far away and the climax shows fittingly how diverse beliefs can exist in harmony.
The drama had scope for everyone to perform. The 23 actors had been working on this production for over four months and they were involved in every process right from concept to scripting, to casting, sets, music, costume and lights.
But it wasn't just all play. The children gifted a computer to St. Annies' Special Home for the Handicapped and also a cheque to the Maithree Foundation.
