On their way to get the tickets for the dance-drama, they witness an accident. What should they do?
|
Kanchan and Sudha tied their ghungroos. They were close friends and talented Bharatanatyam dancers. The class watched as the two of them danced.
Their teacher Madhavi Menon came into the room. "Girls I have some interesting news for you. There will be special performance of the newest dance-drama soon and we will get a special discount." All the students were excited at this. Madhavi Menon told them to bring the money tomorrow, as they would have to buy the tickets immediately.
The next day, Kanchan and Sudha decided that they would walk across to the dance school and hand over the money. The weather was fine and they talked about the dance-drama."
At the hospital
Then things happened in a flash. A little girl's ball fell from her hand and bounced onto the road. She darted after it. A plump, grey-haired lady who had been walking with the child, ran after her. A scooter was speeding towards them. Sudha acted at once. She sprinted forward and pushed the two of them out of harm's way.
"Thank you for saving us, my dear," said the lady. Her hand was bleeding.
Sudha worried that she may have fractured her hand in the fall. She called an auto rickshaw, "We will have to take you to the hospital at once," she said. The lady protested saying that she could go by herself.
But Sudha insisted. Kanchan was getting impatient. "Yes, come on, Sudha. We have already lost a lot of time. We must go quickly or we will not get the tickets from Madhavi Menon."
"You go along," said Sudha. "I will take them to the hospital."
Kanchan nodded and walked off. There was a strange look on the lady's face as she watched Kanchan walk off.
At the hospital, Sudha asked the nurses to help her as the lady had fainted due to shock and the pain. On seeing this, the child, Rima, began to cry. Sudha comforted her as best she could.
"Do you have your mother's phone number? Then I can call her and ask her to come."
Sudha called the mother, telling her all that had happened. Just then a nurse came to tell Sudha that the patient's arm needed stitches and she had to get some medicines. Sudha took Rima with her to the pharmacy and bought the medicines. Luckily, she had enough money with her.
At the hospital, Rima squealed happily, "Mummy!"
"I'll leave now," said Sudha.
"You must have paid for the medicines. How much do I owe you? Oh! I did not bring enough money with me. Give me your address so that I can send it you."
Sudha returned home feeling strangely contented. She however, felt a twinge of regret that she would miss the concert.
That evening the courier handed her a letter. When Sudha opened it, out fell tickets for the dance-drama. The lady whom Sudha had helped was the mother of the leading dancer. Sudha realised that the lady must have heard Kanchan's mention of the dance-drama. So now Sudha and her parents would go as important guests to the dance-drama.
