National Talent Search Examination

Students of various schools in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts who underwent National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) training at Mangalore and Udupi centres of Manipal Institute of Computer Education (MICE) have excelled in the examination conducted by Department of State Education Research and Training on November 12, 2006. In all, 27 students from the two districts who underwent training at MICE have passed NTSE. Sharmila Rathan, in-charge of MICE, Mangalore says that seven out of eight students, including seven from 10th standard and one from 8th standard selected from Mangalore in NTSE, underwent training at MICE centre, Mangalore. In Udupi comprising Udupi, Brahmawar and Karkala, 11 out of 15 students in the 8th standard and nine out of 13 students in 10th standard underwent training at MICE Centre, Udupi. Students from Mangalore selected in 10th standard category are Anish Bhat P., St. Aloysius High School, Kodialbail, Arpitha Rajan, St. Gerosa Girls High School, Jeppu, Nishan Shetty G. and Sudeep S. Bhat, Canara High School, Urwa, Suhas Rohith Pai, Canara High School, Dongerkery, Vikramaditya, Sharada Vidyalaya, Kodialbail and Vishawanath K.B., Vishwamangala High School, Konaje. Barring Anish, rest of the students are from MICE. Namratha Pai N., a standard VIII student of Victoria Girls High School, Lady Hill is the lone student selected from Mangalore in the 8th standard category. She too is a student of MICE. In all, 526 students from Mangalore and 650 students from Udupi from 8th standard category appeared for NTSE. Off these, seven were selected from Udupi and one from Mangalore. In the standard 10 category, 820 students from Udupi and 650 students from Mangalore appeared for NTSE. Off these, 20 including 13 from Udupi and rest from Mangalore have been selected. Incidentally, there has been a steady rise in number of students in the standard 8 and standard 10 from Mangalore and Udupi since 2005-05. As against four students from Udupi who passed NTSE in 2004-05, this number has gone up to 36 in 2006-07.
