IN TRANSIT: from Suzhou South China Reserve to Laohu Valley Reserve.
A South China tiger has had to go all the way to South Africa for a rendezvous. The tiger, of which less than 100 are known to exist, is on a population-saving exercise. The tiger is to be paired with a female in a reserve in South Africa. If the plan works, the tigers will meet in the wild and hone their hunting skills before being sent back to their native environment. The male tiger came from the Suzhou South China Tiger Reserve. With 60 in captivity and between 10 and 30 tigers in the wild, the success of this mating mission is crucial to save this almost extinct species.
