Failure in an examination depends on several factors, including the way of answering questions and the way of evaluation of question papers, according to counselling psychologist couple Hypno Kamalakar and Padma Kamalakar.
Those who fail in the examinations lose confidence and resort to extreme steps. But there are no failures in any ones' life, only efforts and results. "These results are based on the physical and mental conditions of the individuals and the socio geographical environment," they point out.
If a student has to appear for the examination in another school, he may not feel comfortable with the new environment. The attitude of invigilators too will have an impact on the student.
Highlighting the role of parents in comforting the students who fail in the examination, they said that parents should give examples of the likes of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujam, poet Rabindranath Tagore and scientist Albert Einstein, who failed in the examinations during their school days. "Failure in one examination is not the end of the career and one need not end his or her life for not being successful in the examination. Failure can be taken as a lesson to re-assess one's own strengths and weaknesses and plan their future accordingly," they point out.
