Sports builds personality and is important.

Abhiram's mother Suja complains that her son does not go out and play. He is neither interested in playing outdoors nor does he play indoor games, she rues. He is either glued to the television or plays games on the computer, she remarks .
Former international athlete Ashwini Nachappa feels that formal education delivered in a fun manner along with sporting development and excellence is what is really needed and she opines that many schools in the city pay lip service to sports.
"I have learnt that it's not just sports or academics only. Life today is so competitive that one needs to have a well-rounded personality and character to meet every challenge," she says.
Enhance development
Ms. Ashwini runs Karumbaiah's Academy for Learning and Sports (KALS), a residential school, nestled in the picturesque hills of South Coorg, where focus is on the all-round development of a child's mental and physical abilities and not just on exam readiness. "Sports has given me many accolades and recognition. In fact what I am today is because of athletics," she says with a smile.
A teacher feels that unless a child receives support from his parent, he cannot pursue a career in sports. "Parents are interested to know how much his son or daughter has scored in the main subjects and not in physical education or craft. I am yet to see a parent who has taken a child to task for scoring less in physical education," she adds.
