As the academic year comes to its traditional conclusion and summer vacation begin, many children are getting their summer plans underway if not in fact, at least in their imaginations. Each child must have different summer plans for this year. The on going industrial exhibition at Swaraj Maidan, Bhavani Islands, Manganipudi beach near Machilipatnam, Kondapalli village and Sibar Water World are some of the choicest destinations.
Leading the list of picnic spots is Bhavani Islands, situated in the middle of river Krishna, attracting people, who wish to enjoy every second of their holiday. Bhavani Islands, one of the largest islands on the river Krishna is spread over 133 acres and is located very near Vijayawada.
Adventure sports including spider web, Burma Bridge, sliding rope, country sliding, apart from usual boating activity attract the crowds to the Bhavani Islands.

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) regional manager K. Venkateswara Rao said that the corporation was not charging anything for the adventure sports unlike other tourist and picnic places.
One can reach Bhavani Islands from three places--Durga Ghat and Bhavanipuram boating points on the Vijayawada side of the Krishna River, and Krishnaveni boating point on the Guntur district side, he said.
Mr. Rao said that tickets for cottages at the Bhavani Islands could be booked over phones: 98489 10517, 98487 19685 and 98480 07025. Except for those staying in the cottages, the visiting hours to the islands are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., he said.
Sibar Water World located at Ajitsingh Nagar is another prime attraction for the children. The Sibar Water World manager S. Sridhar said that they were introducing many new play items for the summer.
A water sliding pool has been dedicated exclusively for kids and women as a summer special, he said. Play items based on spring action were some of the new attractions.
The Sibar Water World is extending the visiting hours by half and hour to one hour depending upon the crowd, he said.
Another interesting place of outing for the kids would be Kondapalli village, the famous toy-making centre, located 14 km northwest of Vijayawada.
Kids could see craftsmen working on carvings and toys in the village.
They would be thrilled to see the toys made of light wood called "Tella Poniki" and lacquered in brilliant colours. RTC buses plied to this village on a regular basis from city bus stand near the Pandit Nehru Bus Stand (PNBS).
Some enthusiasts preferred visiting Manginapudi beach 11 km from Machilipatnam for a rendezvous with the sea.
Manginapudi was 85 km from Vijayawada and RTC operated buses to Machilipatnam at regular intervals. RTC operated frequent services from Machilipatnam to the beach that had a natural bay and comparatively shallow and safe waters.
