Scott in Antarctica

R. SOUNDARARAJAN

In 1987, Hungary Post issued a four-forint stamp in commemoration of the 75th death anniversary of the British explorer Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912).

Scott was in command of the Discovery from 1900 to 1904 exploring the Antarctic regions. In June 1910, he sailed for the South Pole and reached it with four companions — Bowers, Evans, Oates and Wilson. Extreme cold and blizzards coupled with inadequate food made their return journey impossible. A search party found their bodies in November 1912. Their diaries showed that they died in March 1912.
