The ongoing summer coaching camp for women cricketers is a major step forward in the game with the Andhra Cricket Association administering it under the instructions of the Board of Control for Cricket in India from this season.

Women cricketers will get the same benefits as their male counterparts. As many as 18 players have registered with the Krishna District Cricket Association (KDCA) and are regularly practising at the nets at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium under the guidance of former Andhra cricketer Ch. Sankar.

“ Players like Durga Bhavani and Winnie have a bright future, as they possess natural flair.

In fact, Durga Bhavani, who is shaping into a finer all-rounder, has already represented Andhra Pradesh in nationals,” Mr. Sankar says.

Select the best

Besides players from Vijayawada, Srisha and Bhargavi from Machilipatnam are also frequenting the camp. “After the camp, we will select a couple of best players for the State camp to be held at Visakhapatnam from May 25. The camp will be held for three weeks. Players from all districts will exhibit their prowess at the Vizag camp,” Mr. Sankar added.

“My primary aim is to fine-tune their fitness levels. Fitness is paramount, as it helps players give their hundred per cent on the field,” KDCA secretary Koka Ramesh points out.
