Tours and treks

A group of 19 students from the city has left for a thrilling 11-day trekking and study tour in Himachal Pradesh.

The expedition is sponsored by the Youth Hostels Association of India, said the Association’s Vijayawada unit secretary Velaga Joshi. Of the 19 participants, 11 are in the age group of 10 to 15 years and have left for a study tour, which commenced at Kasauli in Kulu district. The remaining eight, all above 15 years of age, would enjoy trekking the hilly terrain. Mr. Joshi said the participants paid only a sum of Rs. 2,250 in addition to Rs. 1400 towards maintenance cost while the remaining expenditure was being borne by the Association.

He said the trekking camp and the study tour served the dual purpose of helping the children escape the severe heat here besides the exposure it provided them. He said the Association would try to include more local names in such exciting programmes in future.
