Under threat

Picture perfect: But the coal mines could destroy the ecosystem.

The Mpumalanga province in South Africa is under threat of the proposed and existing coal mine in the area. Environmentalists fear the mines would cause irreparable damage to the ecosystem, including frogs and birds in this area. The Mine has already caused irreparable damage to the lakes and land nearby. Green activists are turning to South African courts as the government battles to balance the conflicting interests of mining expansion and environmental protection.
