Majestic monuments

VIKAS S. KHATRI

The two stamps depicting a view of the Golconda fort and a picture of the palace at the Chandragiri fort respectively were issued by the Department of Posts on December 31, 2002.

The Golconda fort is a majestic monument, which lies on the western outskirts of Hyderabad. The fort is believed to be built originally by the Yadava rulers of the region and later passed through the domination of different dynasties like the Kakatiya s and Bahmani Sultans.

The palace at Chandragiri comprises the Raja Mahal and the Rani Mahal and was built in the 17th century. Built in the Vijaynagar style of architecture, it has a number of gopurams.
