Winner bees

The Spelling Bee competition saw a tough fight among the finalists.



Victorious: At the National Championship.

The National Level Championship 2006-2007 of the MaRRS International Spelling Bee was conducted on June 29,30 and July 1 at Goa.

The competition was supported by Goa Tourism Development Corporation.

The 450 students, who had qualified from the State Level Championships held in various parts of the country, participated in the competition in the six categories.

The participants were screened through seven rounds, which measured the vocabulary and spelling strength of the participants. The winners received TATA trophies and commemorative gold coins sponsored by Bajaj Sevashram and also a letter of commendation and a copy of the Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary from Cambridge University Press. Participants who qualified for the final round of the competition received a Silver Medallion sponsored by Bisleri. All participants received a copy of Encyclopedia Britannica, which was sponsored by TI – Cycles.

In Categories I to 6 the first prize winners are C. Nirmall Palaniyappan of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Mumbai, Vijita Kamath of Bombay Scottish, Mumbai, Athira Anil Kumar of Dr. N. International School, Ernakulam, Namitha Narasimha of NAFL, Bangalore, Cassia Zuleira of Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi, Thrissur and Karthik Shyam NPS, Bangalore, respectively. Karthik Shyam was also awarded the Cambridge University Press Best Performer trophy.

MARRS International Spelling Bee is the first English Spelling Competition in Asia and is also the largest of its kind in the world in terms of participation.
