Catch ’em young to teach them better

HEERA NAWAZ

Check out some innovative ways to learn.

Albert Einstein had once said, “I have no particular talent. I am merely inquisitive.”

Denver-Colorado-based FasTracKids International has more than 150 enrichment centres in over 25 countries of which one is in Koramangala, Bangalore. The Centre has improvised an extremely innovative and revolutionary mode of teaching young children, f rom six months to eight years.

Dr. Stella Samuel, former principal of Bishop Cotton Girls’ School is the Area Developer. In the Fast Track Signing programmes for babies in the six months to two years category, it was found that at 12 months, children who had undertaken the Signing course could communicate with an average of 25 signs and 16 words compared to one or two spoken words for non-signing children.

The four major courses held at this centre are:

1) FasTrack Signing - 6 months to 2 years; 2) FasTrack Music - 2 years to 4 years; 3) FasTrack Tots - 2-1/2 years to 3-1/2 years; 4) FasTracKids Core Enrichment - 3 years to 8 years

The FasTrack Signing course helps infants and toddlers develop early communication channels through the use of signs and this can incidentally often help reduce frustration, confusion and temper tantrums.

As it is well known that music is a great mind purifier, the FasTrack Music course offers children, aged two to four years, a chance to learn about rhythm, instruments and singing. These facilitate the process of the child’s reasoning and even test taking skills later in life.

The third course, namely, the FasTrack Tots, teaches children skills for success in school and in life. It is a highly interactive programme featuring songs, experiments and hands-on activities, which help develop the child’s concentration, communication, self-esteem and social skills.

The last course, FasTracKids Core Enrichment course is similar to the FasTrack Tots’ course except it is for slightly older children and therefore subsequently its standard is higher and more in-depth. These courses help the child a great deal for in the centres worldwide it is a proven fact that the child’s mind is like a computer and therefore the child’s potential should be tapped at an early stage.
