An education by itself

The Christian book fair organised by Operation Mobilisation, Books, had a large collection of Bibles, Christian books, reference books, fiction and children’s literature.

Sir Walter Scott lay dying when he asked his servant his servant for the book. When asked for which one, the author was impatient. “The Book, meaning the Holy Bible, as if there could be a doubt about The book being any other than the Word of God.

The most translated and best selling book of all time, the Bible, comprises the Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament contains 39 books while the New Testament features 27 books, including the four synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. David’s book of Psalms and Solomon’s book of Proverbs are often prescribed as texts for students of English Literature.

Wide variety

The Operation Mobilisation Books, India, has organised the Chennai International Christian Book Fair of Bibles, Christian books, reference books, fiction and children’s literature at Gurukul Theological College, Purasawalkam.

The variety of Bibles is incredible — Adventure, Backpack, Wedding, Family, Children’s, to name a few. Leather-bound and paperback editions of a host of versions of the Scripture — the most popular New International Version, the poetic King James Version, New King James Version et al — vie for attention. A couple of trendy Bibles come in hip tote bags. Bible reading is an education by itself, said Lord Tennyson.

Favourite authors like Ravi Zacharias, Tozer, and Carothers are displayed and the prices are reasonable too.

There is a range of toys, games, quiz and music CDs for children, besides the numerous books to attract their attention. A separate section for gifts flaunts verses from the Bible adorning tasselled bookmarks, wall hangings, table top frames and stickers.

The exhibition cum sale is on till tomorrow, August 18.
