Honing skills: Of budding cricketers
There is good news for young cricketers of Krishna District, as the cricketing activity is all set to witness a vast change. With the change of guard at the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) and new secretary V. Chamundeswaranath allotting Rs. 5 lakhs to the district for the promotion of the game, more opportunities are on the anvil for budding cricketers.
Krishna District Cricket Association secretary Koka Ramesh says there will be more concentration in rural areas for the promotion of the game. “There are many talented players in villages. We’ll be conducting many coaching camps to identify precocious talent. We will also stage a number of tournaments including inter-school tourneys to identify raw talent,” he explains. Krishna district has produced many talented players, who went on to play for Andhra and South zones.
Some of the prominent players are V. Vijayasaradhi, Kalyan Krishna, Charan and N. Madhukar.
Great grounds
With the ACA signing a memorandum of understanding with Siddhartha Medical College for using the grounds of the latter to promote the game, Vijayawada can now host national junior age-group tourneys.
“We have IGMC Stadium and now SMC Grounds.
We can stake our claim to stage national tourneys, which will help youngsters to hone their skills by observing talented players at work,” Mr. Ramesh hopes.
