Dance little lady dance: Varshini
The city is brimming with talent, what with two Balashree winners in the same year.
Arza Varshini, a Std. VIII student of Bhashyam Public School is the other winner of the Balashree award from the state, winning the prestigious award for arts and dance this year.
The award, which is often called the highest civilian honour a child can receive in the field of arts was given to the young dancer early last month by the then President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
Practice makes perfect
Varshini has been learning Bharatanatyam for the past six years under her guru, V.S Rama Moorthy and Manjula Ramaswamy and practised hard to be amongst the top rung this year.
Other than dance, Varshini has also dabbled in films and television and is a Nandi award winner for the movie “Gulabeelu” directed by director Akkineni Kutumba Rao.
The other recent movie she has done is Amulyam, which is due for release in a couple of months.
Varshini is one of those child artistes who has participated in many contests, but it took the Balashree award for people to notice her real talent.
Going professional
When she’s not buried in her academic curriculum, Varshini can be found brushing up her dance steps under the tutelage of her gurus. Though she is young, she is sure of what she wants for herself, epecially in the future.
More than movies
“Movies are not priority. I only want to dance and one day be a professional dancer,” she says.
