For freedom and fraternity

The feeling of patriotism came to the fore on Independence Day.

Saying it with sand: Mark of patriotism

The spirit of patriotism was at its peak all throughout the week as the 61st Independence Day was celebrated last week with great enthusiasm and fervour.

The city was cloaked in the shades of the tri-colour as people celebrated the day in different ways. Patriotic fervour was depicted at the beach while people came out in hordes with the national flags.

On the beach

A huge sand sculpture of the Indian map etched on the beach by the Sri Sampath Vinayaka Association (Akkayyapalem) was the main attraction. Flat associations in the city conducted many programmes to celebrate I-Day. Meanwhile, several schools and colleges celebrated the Independence Day with patriotic fervour.

Nalanda Talent School celebrated the day in a grand way. Prof. V.S.R.K. Prasad for AUCE who was the chief guest on the occasion hoisted the flag. Students presented a colourful cultural programme.

Kids of Sahodara Mansion at Kirlampudi participated in the I-Day celebrations. The initiative was taken by Lakshmi Kapoor and Lakshmi Gopalakrishna.

The children were energetic and full of zeal. The programme included flag hoisting by A.P.Kapoor and various cultural programmes by the children of the building. The activities evoked patriotic feelings, friendship and love among children and elders.

Uphold truth

Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies celebrated the day with a host of activities. Director of institute Prof. C. Suryanarayana hoisted the national flag and exhorted the students to be truthful and contribute for the continual development of the country.

ICFAI National College in association with Rotary Club of Waltair organised a blood donation camp as part of the I-Day celebrations.

The camp was inaugurated by president of Rotary Club of Waltair Leonora R.Mohan. More than 50 students donated blood in the camp. Vice principal of ICFAI M. Sudha appreciated the efforts of the students for taking part in the camp.

At A.V.N. College, Chairman and Managing Director of Dredging Corporation of India Ltd. A.K. Dhar hoisted the flag. He spoke about the sacrifices of freedom fighters and stressed on the need to take up an active role in the nation building process. Correspondent Indrani Jaggarow and principal N. Venkateshwara Rao addressed the gathering.
