Fully automatic: Tour guide robot.

Robina is the latest tour guide robot. It is equipped with autonomous movement capabilities with wheels and jointed fingers. The wheeled robot can communicate with visitors verbally and also with gestures. It can recognise the visitors’ nametags and engage in conversation with them as well as sign autographs with its jointed fingers. Toyota hopes to monitor the robot and apply what it learns to developing future robots.

While robots like these are a show of a company’s technological prowess, Toyota is developing the robots to assist with domestic chores, nursing and medical care, manufacturing and personal transport. This 1.2 metre tall humanoid robot started to serve escort services for visitors at the Toyota Kaikan exhibition hall that displays the company’s advanced technologies in Toyota city, Aichi prefecture, central Japan.
