Miniature beauties

P. SOLOMON DHANARAJ

Indian miniature paintings is a blend of Moghul and indigenous style. Many schools of miniature paintings flourished during the 17th and 18th centuries. The erstwhile P and T department issued a set of colourful stamps on May 15, 1973, depicting four classical specimen from Rajasthani and Moghul paintings.

One of them is a Rs. 2 stamp which depicts an elephant being tamed by a prince. This is believed to have been painted during Jehangir’s reign.
