World Post Day

R. SOUNDARARAJAN

In 1974 Hungary Post issued a set of stamps commemorating the centenary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The 60-forint stamp shows a mail coach of the 18th century with the UPU’s symbol to the right.

The formation of the UPU on October 9, 1874 facilitated transit of international mail. The day is celebrated in all countries every year as World Post Day. Since 1947, the UPU is a specialised agency of the United Nations.
