Techie Taffy

PAROMITA PAIN

Humming “Tis the season to be jolly”, Techie did a merry jig on the info superhighway and welcomed in the month of December. The last month of the year — and it’s the jolliest one too what with Christmas and, presents and other celebrations just round the corner. December just isn’t about Christmas though. It’s also about taking a quick look at how your year was and how best you can keep the fun times going in the new!

While on the subject of Christmas take a look at the page on http://www.history.com/minisites/christmas/ that promises to tell you all what you like to know about the season, including its special music and tips on gifts.

If you believe that Christmas was always on the date we know, then here’s food for thought. The page at http://www.christianitytoday.com/history/newsletter/2000/dec08.html says “For the church’s first three centuries, Christmas wasn’t in December — or on the calendar at all.”

A month, when you might have to strain at resources for presents, check out the site at http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/10/pledge_handmade.php that promises to be the ultimate in showing visitors how you can make handmade gifts and recycle stuff. In fact it requests visitors to try and buy as much made stuff as possible since it good for the Earth.

Did you know what a song cycle is? The Wikepedia says, “A song cycle is a group of songs designed to be performed in sequence as a single entity.” Well December as the Wiki, says, has its own song cycle and “December Songs is a song cycle by Maury Yeston. It is a ‘retelling’ of Schubert’s Winterreise, (a song cycle of art songs). It was performed for three months in 2004 at the Theatre du Renard in Paris, and was sung by Isabelle Georges.” Catch more about at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_Songs.
