Sweet smelling stamps

R. SOUNDARARAJAN

India Post, for the first time, released perfumed stamps in December 2006. In doing so, they joined a small band of postal administrations like New Zealand, the U.S. and Thailand which have issued such stamps.

Valued at Rs. 15 each, the stamps, when rubbed, emit the fragrance of sandalwood. The stamp shows a stylised picture of an elephant rubbing its trunk against a sandalwood tree.
