Hooked: Bull shark.

Any angler would give his fishing rod for a catch like this: a 551-pound bull shark. But it wasn’t a grizzled old fisherman who made this record catch. This honour went to 12-year-old Aidan Murray Medley, a seventh grade student from Eagle Hill School, Greenwich, Connecticut. On a vacation in Florida, Aidan went on an early morning excursion on a charter boat. First he hooked only small fish and lost them all, so he replaced his bait with a barracuda head. And the sh ark sprang for it. Aida reeled in his catch after a 45-minute battle though he said he “lost feeling” in his body after 20 minutes. But catching sharks is not new to Aidan; he already has four to his credit with one reaching 461 pounds. Aidan’s current catch will be sent to the International Game Fish Association to verify whether it was a record catch or not. Aidan’s not too bothered however; he’s dreaming of being a marine biologist.
