The Athletic Meet was fun and the participants went home happy.

Students and teachers of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, are exhilarated that the recently-concluded 12th CBSE National Athletic Meet in Kochi went on well. They were the main organisers of the event, which saw the participation of over 1500 athletes, coaches and others from schools in the country and six countries outside.
“The event of such magnitude was a good learning experience for the students and staff,” says Maya Mohan, school principal. A good share of the funds was raised by students of the school and sponsors. The students conducted jumble sales, sale of home-cooked food items and second-hand books.
Some qualities
“Each class decided for themselves how best to raise funds. There was no compulsion. Many students sold artefacts and jewellery made by them. Parents and teachers pooled in with help,” says Ms Mohan. The Kerala’s State bird - the Hornbill was chosen as the mascot for the event, based on the design submitted by Nayana V of standard VIII. Kerala, the host school and the qualities of a sportsman were represented in the mascot.
The double-headed arrow on the mascot’s chest signified that there is no limit for athletes. The message was simple- accept wins and losses with equanimity.
The student volunteers, supervised by teachers played a crucial role in arranging accommodation and food to the participants. Kochi schools helped by providing transport for the opening ceremony. The Star Homes helped with accommodation, while Lakshmi Hospital provided medical supplies. A school from the host State, Labour India Public School, Kottayam was the overall winner.
