The NSS, Tiruchi district


The NSS, Tiruchi district, organised AIDS awareness programmes in various parts of the district by taking out rallies and conducting special camps and workshops for the NSS coordinators and volunteers.

Under the auspices of the 85 NSS units day-long camps were held in 20 centres in which NSS volunteers of Std. XI participated.

The experts from Parent Trust, Anbalayam, GVN Hospital, Khajamalai Ladies Association, SOC-SEAD, Gramalaya, Isha, Rotary and Lions Clubs, Women’ s organisations along with the doctors of government hospitals were the resource persons and they provided vital information on health and hygiene, importance of AIDS education, personality development, and leadership qualities to the participants.

More than 2,000 NSS volunteers participated in the camps held in the centres, including Tiruchi, Manapparai, Palakurichi, Manachanallur, Lalgudi, Dalmiapuram, Thuraiyur, Thattiengarpettai, Musiri, Balasamuthiram and Ayilapettai, according to the District Liaison Officer of the Tiruchi district NSS, P. Thirunavukkarasu.

More than 500 NSS volunteers of the various city schools participated in an awareness rally which was flagged off from the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Townhall. The NSS volunteers of L.N.P. Girls Higher Secondary School, Lalgudi, took out an AIDS awareness rally in Lalgudi town recently. Asaithambi, a social worker, flagged-off the rally.

The headmistress of the school, Sasikala, spoke on the serious impact of AIDS. The NSS coordinators, Nalina and Susheela, and other teachers also participated in the rally. The students carried placards containing slogans urging the people to extend a helping hand to the various activities aimed at preventing the spread of AIDS.
