Young radio stars

DEEPTHI GOVINDARAJAN

They performed with flair and confidence.

Nidhi and Amelia: True entertainers

If you thought pre-teens is all about bubblegum, Barbie dolls and toy cars, Nidhi Acharya and Amelia David might just convince you otherwise. The two girls have been radio jockeys at the “Junior RJ” programme on Radio Indigo 91.9 FM. The music channel has started this special show in which young music enthusiasts anchor the one-hour slot every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Donning the role of RJs and playing some of their favourite songs for the city was fun, say the duo, especially because they got to write their scripts and choose the music they wanted to play on the show.

Nidhi Acharya, a IV grader from Presidency School in R.T. Nagar, hosted the show on January 19. Amelia David, an 8-year-old studying at Vidya Niketan Academy, took over the console on January 26. While Nidhi played her dose of heavy metal, which she says is her father’s influence, Amelia stuck to moving through the ages from the 80’s to the current music scenario.

Young World caught up with the two:

What sort of music do you listen to?

Amelia: I listen to Radio Indigo. I don’t really have any specific kind of music that I like; I just listen to the music played on radio. I also like some Hindi songs.

Nidhi: I love heavy metal. I like bands like Nightwish and Lacuna Coil.

Where did you get your love for music from?

A: I always loved music. I sing in a choir and we have shows during Christmas and on some special days. I love to sing.

N: My father. He always listened to heavy metal and I used to listen to music with him and I loved it.

What else do you like to do?

A: I love to read. I read a lot and I also love watching movies. The animation movies and other children’s movies.

N: I love skating. I also like to draw and paint.

Any plans of becoming an R.J. in the future?

A: I don’t know. I haven’t decided yet!

N: I wouldn’t mind becoming an R.J. It’s a lot of fun!
