In cyber world

PAROMITA PAIN

Stories that give you a glimpse of the other side of the internet.

Can you imagine life without the internet? Most of us today simply can’t. The net is exciting and addictive. But there’s more to this than what meets the eye. Shockwave and other cyber stories is an anthology that will show net junkies another side.

Have you ever heard of an e-djinn who does stuff you tell it to do? Meet on in the narrative titled “Almaru” by Vandana Singh. Times have changed and how! Nothing is as we once knew them to be. In the middle of it all is Vrinda and her father. Who is the mysterious they who take him away? What is the message that he has left for her?

“The Boy Who Knew Too Much” by Jerry Pinto is a relevant story and the lessons are implicit and hard hitting. It is easy to pretend while you are on chat and unfortunately many people do.

Each story is either full of mystery or has an evocatively mysterious atmosphere that actually makes you want to know more. You might not like to read the whole lot of the stories in one go as that might make them seem routine. Read a few at a time. They are sure to make you think and look at concepts differently. They are not all negative in connotation but they will certainly make you wonder about the implications of our technical future.

SHOCKWAVE AND OTHER CYBER STORIES,

A Puffin Original, Rs 175
