Stones and adobe: The circular 5,500-year-old sunken ceremonial plaza.

A ceremonial plaza dating back to 3500-3000 B.C. was discovered in Peru recently. This shows that civilisation existed in Peru around the same time as it did in West Asia and South Asia. Built of stone and adobe, the circular plaza, sunk into the ground, was found in the Sechin Bajo complex in the foothills of the Andes. It was probable a social space for local people to gather. Nearby the team also found an adobe frieze of a human sacrifice that dates back to about 1800 B.C. Peruvian archaeologist Walter Alva told AP that this find provides evidence of an “advanced civilisation with economic stability, a necessary condition to construct such a ceremonial site”. The discovery of the ancient city of Caral in 2001 proved that Peru had a civilisation contemporary to ancient?
