The Madurai East block-wise science exhibition provided a platform to students from rural schools to exhibit their talent and knowledge acquired in the classrooms. Under the Sarva Shiksha Abiyan Scheme, the Department of Elementary Education organised the exhibition for the benefit of students of all panchayat union elementary schools including aided, corporation, and Adi Dravidar Schools.
The one-day exhibition witnessed the participation of 106 schools that had displayed 330 working models in 11 stalls at RC Middle School, Kathakinaru near Madurai.
The students had displayed science working models on a developed village in 2020, wind mill, electricity through biogas, solar family, the impact of pollution on ozone layer, Pamban bridge, alarm system to detect Tsunami, air force, hydro electric plants, harbour, mushroom culture and satellites among others. Students from Vandiyur Middle school explained the functioning of the human heart, lungs and food pipe.
Students had also displayed a model of an electronic voting machine that worked with a battery. The winners at the block-level will contest in the district-level exhibition and in the State-level exhibition concurrently, said S. Paulraj, Assistant Elementary Education Officer.
Students from schools in Kathakinaru, Tirumohur, Vandiyur, Gandhi Nagar, Varichiyur, Kalandhiri, Karseri, Kabir Nagar, Kodikulam and Sathamangalam were selected for the district level exhibition.
