Creating awareness

The Department of Biotechnology, Government of India and the National Geographic Channel get together to create a unique school contact programme. This is a year-long ‘DNA Club’ (Department of Biotechnology’s Natural Resource Awareness Club) campaign to create awareness about bio-resources and their utilisation among students from Stds. VI to IX. The National Geographic Channel invites viewers to re-think the way they see the world — with smart, inn ovative programming. The channel explores the world around us through stunning visuals and imagery backed by scientific reason, innovative technologies and credibility.

Nat Geo films and interesting activities like projects, quizzes, and discussions are lined up. The programme will be extended to both public and private institutions.

A trained Nat Geo instructor will conduct interactive sessions separately for students of Std. VI and VII and Std. VIII and IX followed by screenings of specially edited films catering to the respective classes.

Students will be given special field and research based-projects called Green Projects to enhance their understanding on the topic of bio-resources, their use and bio-technology. As part of the interactive initiatives, inter-school quizzes will be organised to recognise the Green Junior.

This programme also aims at taking the children beyond what is taught in the classroom in a more relevant and interesting manner.
