Towards excellence

VIKAS S. KHATRI

The Department of Posts issued a set of four stamps on the 28th Olympics on August 13, 2004. To honour the Olympic spirit to reflect India’s move towards excellence in sports, these four stamps feature wrestling, shooting, hockey and athletics.

Stamps featuring Olympic themes have been popular with collectors since the first modern Olympic games, when Greece issued 12 commemorative stamps in 1896.
