The recently launched website ( www.pgovindapillai.info) of Marxist ideologue, P. Govinda Pillai, provides a unique opportunity for children to interact with the veteran leader on various topics of their interest.

Children can e-mail their queries and thoughts to the Communist leader fondly known as PG and get answers. The bi-lingual (English and Malayalam) website featuring the life and works of Mr. Govinda Pillai was launched at his residence in Subhas Nagar, near Eenchakkal, recently. The website features a lively interactive session, which the veteran leader had with children in connection with the All Kerala Reading Competition organised by the Kerala State Library Council last year.

During the session PG exhorts children to widen their scope of reading beyond the confines of their academic text books. “The Knowledge which we gain today gets outdated very fast. Hence it is important for us to keep updated frequently,” PG told the children.

Making a point

“What I learned in school was the history of Travancore, today Travancore has become a part of Kerala,” he said. According to him the most significant feature during his school days was the unflinching devotion towards royalty engendered in the minds of the students.

“Instead of the national anthem we used to sing a song which wishes good luck for the King,” he said.

P.G. also encourages children to write along with reading. “You should make it a point to take down notes from the section which you have read. This will help to improve your self-confidence and writing skills,” he said.

“Reading aloud too is beneficial as this will help you to improve their pronunciation and language, which is very essential in creating a positive impression before others,” he added.

The website designed by his friends, relatives and well-wishers was launched in connection with the 83rd birth-day of the Communist leader.

The site traces the multi-faceted personality of the Communist leader right from his birth into an upper middle class family in Pulluvazhi village in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam in 1926 to the present.

An article written by E.M.S. Namboodirippad, the first Communist Chief Minister of the State in 1995 that acknowledges PG’s contribution to the popularisation of Marxist ideology in the State and one by PG on E.M.S. Namboodiripad titled ‘Literary Critic and Cultural Activist’ adorn the home page of the website.

The site’s photo gallery features an impressive collection of photographs reflecting his personal, social and political life. His collection of books, which runs into several thousand volumes, is listed on the website. There will be updated with more Malayalam content in the near future.
