Our classes and theirs

Teachers of both countries shared views on learning strategies.

It was a total surprise for the 11-
member group from Birmingham,
England, when they saw
teachers writing on black boards,
in a high school at Pudukkad,
Thrissur district. For them, it
would be interactive boards, with
internet-equipped computers in
front of each child . The team consisted
of teachers of various disciplines;
under the organisation,
TIDE (Teachers In Development
Education) was on a tour to study
about education, decentralisation
of power etc in India and other
countries.
Smart classes
Their aim was to learn about
education and to know how community
learns beyond formal
education.
The teachers from various disciplines
like IT, Religion, Sociology,
Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry and English Literature
interacted with their counterpart
and students of St. Antony's High
School, Pudukkad under Kodakara
Block Panchayat. TIDE members
had detailed interaction with the
teachers, students and people's representatives
at the school.
Teaching in UK is purely interactive session, unlike our lecture method. They have smart classes with students pushing buttons to air queries to teachers. TIDE has been conducting study tours to India with members of the teaching faculty for quite some time. They can be contacted at wmc@tidec.org and on web www.tidec.org.
