Sammy set out to please grandpa, for, he knew when he was not liked!
|
When Sammy came home he was just days old, a filthy and weak kitten.Abu had heard his faint calls under a bush. His large brown eyes would melt anybody’s heart. Abu’s grandfather, however, didn’t take to the new addition kindly. “Cats are not attached to people but the house in which they live,
” he said.
“He is just a kitten and he is so cute,” pleaded Abu.
“But he won’t stay a kitten forever,” said Grandpa, rather sternly.
Mother said, “He has to be vegetarian like us.”
Once it was decided that Sammy was staying, Abu’s mother took him shopping. They bought a book on cat care and a plastic tray.
In a few days Sammy looked healthy and was very active.
Magic
Grandpa’s place of study was right next to the window in the hall, where the warm morning rays of the winter sun would fall. It wasn’t very surprising to find Sammy all curled up on the table on top of the books.
Of course Grandpa gave him a long lecture on respecting books and other people’s space.
“But what would a cat know,” he said in disgust, as he dusted his books.
Grandpa found Sammy on his chair next morning. Abu too told him to leave grandpa alone.
Next morning Abu was happy to see that Sammy was neither on Grandpa’s books nor his chair.
Five minutes later Sammy was standing near Grandpa and meowing, asking him if he could sit in his favourite place. Grandpa shook his head. He purred and rubbed himself against his legs. Abu was watching. After much pleading his sweet innocent looks worked like magic on Grandpa. His face softened and he gave a chuckle.
“You rogue,” said Grandpa, “All right come on.” In a flash Sammy was on the table, he circled the books once, looked deep into Grandpa’s eyes and then jumped right into his lap and settled down!
Everyone in the family was amazed at the miracle Sammy had achieved, getting Grandpa to smile.
